Big volcano mess might be good for virtual worlds

Virtual Meetings can reduce air travel and carbon footprint

Edited by: SP

The Icelandic volcano has temporarily made air travel impossible in Europe - with a massive impact on business. Maybe it is time for these businesses to look more closely at virtual meeting spaces?

This has huge economical consequences, even more so if the worst predictions of the duration of the flight ban come true. Environmentally bright side of this can be reduced air travel in the long run and increased use of virtual worlds for meetings.

Old habits die hard, even more so if they become cheaper. This has been the story of using flights for transportation.

Flying is important. It is the only feasible way to get to the other side of the globe. To save the planet, the amount of flying has to be reduced.

Eyjafjalla volcano eruption halted the flights at Europe, and the condition may continue for a long time. Another volcano nearby has historically reacted within two years, and it is the bigger one. The consequences may be far worse.

This is a sad moment to many businesses around the globe, but Maxping hopes that virtual meetings are taken into everyday toolbox of many individuals and companies even after the flights get back to the air again.
